BusBus Back to the map

Privacy notice · Beta

Your location,
without following you.

BusBus is built to work without an account and with as little data as possible. This page explains, simply, what happens when you use the map.

My location

Geolocation is optional and is only requested when you tap “Use my location”. The browser shows its own permission prompt.

The coordinates are used in the browser’s memory to show the blue dot, centre the map and count the vehicles within two kilometres. BusBus doesn’t send them to its backend, doesn’t record them in logs, doesn’t store them on the device and doesn’t pass them to Analytics.

When the map moves to your area, the browser requests the needed map tiles from the map provider, just as it does when you pan the map by hand. The request can therefore tell the provider which area is shown, but it carries no BusBus profile or personal account.

You can hide the blue dot from the same button. Your location is discarded anyway when you close or reload the page; BusBus doesn’t use location in the background.

02

Map data

The buses, lines and stops come from the ACTV/AVM GTFS and GTFS-Realtime feeds. This data is about the vehicles and isn’t linked to your identity.

The map tiles are provided by OpenFreeMap and its contributors. As with any resource loaded from an external site, the provider may receive technical connection data, such as your IP address and the tiles requested.

03

Anonymous measurement

BusBus uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits and a few deliberate actions: searching for or choosing a line, opening a vehicle card, enabling or declining location. We never send free text, coordinates, vehicle identifiers or other personal data.

For more on the technical processing done by the provider, see Vercel’s privacy documentation.

Contact and choices

The BusBus project is run by Osteria Digitale. For questions about privacy or how the service works, use the contacts published on osteriaweb.it.

You can revoke the location permission at any time from your browser settings. Even without location, all of BusBus’s core features stay available.
